About the Course:

This course examines the treatment of substance use disorder (SUD) in older adults, specifically substance misuse and cognitive impairment, and social support and other wellness strategies. It includes: substance misuse in older adults, links between substance misuse and cognitive disorders, substance misuse and co-occurring mental disorders that affect cognition, how providers can help, addressing caregiver concerns, social support-the key to health, wellness, and recovery, and promoting wellness strategies for older adults.

This course is based on the reading-based online, Tip 26-Treating Substance Use Disorder in Older Adults-Substance Misuse and Cognitive Impairment created by SAMHSA in 2020.
