This course discusses how Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) impacts substance use prevention in both adolescents and adults. It includes: adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and substance use, prevention in the behavioral health system, The Arizona Youth Survey (AYS), The Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS), demographics, similarities and differences for youth and adult samples, and benefits of systems collaboration.

Shiyou Wu, PhD
Shiyou Wu is a professor at the School of Social Work, Arizona State University. His research interests include design and development of social interventions, with special emphasis on interventions to prevent substance use and reduce health disparities among youth. His work has been published in multiple peer reviewed journals.
Sarah Lindstrom Johnson, PhD (Public Health)
Sarah Lindstrom Johnson is a professor at the Sanford School of Social and Family Dynamics, Arizona State University. Dr. Lindstrom Johnson's work often involves trials of preventative interventions within family, school, and neighborhood environments. Her work has been published in multiple peer reviewed journals.

L.A. Rankin is a social worker with experience in many different settings with a variety of clients. She has worked with dementia and Alzheimers patients, dual diagnosis MH/MR, in a battered women’s shelter, and a rape crisis center. She also has 11 years of experience as a child protective social worker, where she earned certificates in domestic abuse/family violence and substance abuse.
