Movement Behaviors and Perceived Loneliness and Sadness Within Alaskan Adolescents

About the Course:

The purpose of this study is to examine the associations between movement behaviors, loneliness, and sadness within Alaskan adolescents. Specifically, associations between meeting recommendations for movement behaviors with loneliness and sadness were examined using weighted logistic regression models, adjusted for age, sex, race/ethnicity, and body mass index (BMI).

Ryan D. Burns, Ph.D. (Health and Kinesiology)
Dr. Burns is an Assistant Professor within the Department of Health, Kinesiology, and Recreation. His research has included developing prediction models to estimate aerobic capacity in adolescents, developing optimal low back pain assessment in adolescents, cross-validating prediction models, modeling physical activity behaviors during physical education, and examining the efficacy of comprehensive school physical activity programming. Dr. Burns has given multiple presentations and has had his research published in several peer reviewed journals.
Yang Bai, Ph.D. (Health and Kinesiology)
Dr. Bai is an -Assistant Professor, Health and Kinesiology, University of Utah. His research areas include physical activity and fitness assessment and epidemiology, school-based youth activity and healthy eating promotion, validation of consumer and research activity monitors, and behavior change with technology. His work has been published in multiple peer reviewed journals.

David M. Lutkemeier
David Lutkemeier holds a BA degree in psychology, a master’s degree in developmental psychology, and a doctorate degree from the University of Cincinnati in Special Education and Psychology. He is certified as a psychologist by the Arizona Board of Psychologist Examiners, as well as holding public school superintendent certification in Arizona and California. Dr. Lutkemeier has worked as an assistant professor at Arizona State University, a school psychologist, special education director, assistant superintendent, and superintendent in both Arizona and California. David, working as a consultant with a national curriculum management group (CMSi) has completed over two dozen comprehensive district-wide curriculum audits in 15 states over the past 20 years and has worked as a test developer for CE Learning Systems for the past ten years.
