About the Course

This course examines the treatment of internet addiction, internet gaming disorder, and video game addiction. It includes: a review of each disorder, pharmacotherapy, CBT-based psychotherapy, family therapy as well as other approaches, and evaluation of other evidence-based treatments.

Kristyn Zajac, PhD

Dr. Kristyn Zajac is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Calhoun Cardiology Center, Behavioral Cardiovascular Prevention Division, and Department of Medicine at UConn Health. Prior to her appointment at UConn Health, she was an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at MUSC’s Family Services Research Center and the director of MUSC’s Adolescent and Family Services clinic. Dr. Zajac’s research focuses on the development and evaluation of interventions for substance abuse and mental health disorders among high-risk adolescents and young adults. Her work has been funded by the National Institute of Mental Health and the American Psychological Foundation and she has published multiple articles in peer reviewed journals.

Meredith K. Ginley, PhD

Dr. Ginley is an assistant professor in the Department of Psychology at East Tennessee State University. Dr. Ginley's Prevention Education and Treatment of Addiction Learning Lab aims to improve treatment outcomes for all individuals experiencing behavioral addictions or substance use disorders. She has been published in multiple peer reviewed journals.

L.A. Rankin is a social worker with experience in many different settings with a variety of clients. She has worked with dementia and Alzheimers patients, dual diagnosis MH/MR, in a battered women’s shelter, and a rape crisis center. She also has 11 years of experience as a child protective social worker, where she earned certificates in domestic abuse/family violence and substance abuse.
