This course is a condensed version of TIP 50, Addressing Suicidal Thoughts and Behaviors in Substance Abuse Treatment. It includes: consensus panel recommendations, types of suicidal thoughts and behaviors, getting ready to address suicidality, 10 points to remember about suicidality, warning signs (direct and indirect) for suicide, risk factors, protective factors, and GATE a four step process for identifying and responding to suicidality. It is a practical guide, which an emphasis on assessing risk, continuing clinical care with suicidality in mind, and competent comprehensive clinical supervision.

This course is based on the reading-based online article, Addressing Suicidal Thoughts and Behaviors in Substance Abuse Treatment Based on TIP 50 created by SAMHSA in 2013.
