About the Course:
This course examines brief interventions and the theories in which they are founded. It includes: the appropriateness of brief family therapy, definitions of “family,” theoretical approaches, using brief family therapies, follow-up, and cultural issues. The theoretical approaches highlighted are: strategic family therapy, structural family therapy, Bowenian family therapy, contextual family therapy, behavioral marital therapy, network therapy, community reinforcement approach, community reinforcement and family training, and multidimensional family therapy.
This course is based on the reading-based online article, TIP34- Brief Interventions and Brief Therapies for Substance Abuse-Brief Family Therapy created by SAMHSA in 2012.
