In this SAMHSA video, the presenters provide insights into housing instability and considerations in regard to both rural and urban environments. The presentation includes definitions of homelessness as well as barriers to accessing housing resources.

Charles Sullivan
Charles Sullivan is the Director of Housing at the Arizona Behavioral Health Corporation (ABC Housing). He has been working in the housing area has a Housing Administrator a Director of Housing since 2007.
Sherri Downing
Sherri Downing, B.A., is a senior program manager for AHP who is nationally recognized for her expertise in addressing homelessness and housing issues, particularly in rural and frontier areas. Ms. Downing has been part of onsite AHP technical assistance (TA) teams that craft, deliver, and report on training targeted to specific groups on topics including cultural competence, trauma-informed practice, fair housing, and services in supportive housing implementation. She has participated in creating a number of resources on a wide range of topics, including substance use treatment, homelessness prevention, youth homelessness and veteran homelessness.
Anna Hollis, Ph.D., NCSP, is a nationally certified school psychologist currently living near Detroit, Michigan. She is licensed as a psychologist in 2 states (Michigan and South Carolina) and certified as a school psychologist in in 5 states (South Carolina, Michigan, Vermont, Pennsylvania, and Maryland). She is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA); the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP); the Michigan Association of School Psychologists (MASP); and the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science (ACBS). Dr. Hollis obtained her Ph.D. in School Psychology from the University of South Carolina. Her professional interests include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT); Positive Psychology; Trauma-Informed Practice; and Urban School Psychology.

After taking this course, you should be able to:
Define and discuss chronic homelessness and the barriers to service provision.
Discuss the Fair Housing Act and the relevant provisions and prohibitions.
Discuss the issues involved with homelessness in both rural and urban settings and identify resources that providers can use to help clients.
