About the Course:
Many health problems or mental disorders that healthcare practitioners (particularly those in primary care) encounter in their everyday practices derive from or are complicated by alcohol use disorders (AUDs). Consequently, healthcare practitioners are in key positions to manage the care of large numbers of individuals with AUDs. However, only a small percentage of these patients are actually treated for AUDs in these settings. The publication, Incorporating Alcohol Pharmacotherapies Into Medical Practice, discuses medications currently approved for treating alcohol use disorders (AUDs). Chapter 4 presents detailed information about oral naltrexone.
Course materials are from Chapter 4 found on pages 27-35 of the pdf document (pages 43-51 if using Adobe toolbar page finder.) Course materials can be accessed either 1) online or by ordering the publication free of charge from: http://ncadistore.samhsa.gov/catalog/productDetails.aspx?ProductID=18117
This course is based on the reading-based online article, Oral Naltrexone (TIP 49, Chapter 4): From Incorporating Alcohol Pharmacotherapies Into Medical Practice (TIP 49) created by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
