Research consistently shows a high prevalence of suicidal thoughts and suicide attempts among persons with substance abuse problems who are in treatment. Treatment Improvement Protocol (TIP) 50, Addressing Suicidal Thoughts and Behaviors in Substance Abuse Treatment is designed to assist in working with adult clients who may be suicidal. Part 2 is an implementation guide for program administrators. Part 2 – Chapter 2: Building a Suicide Prevention—and Intervention—Capable Agency provides detailed information on how to achieve high-quality implementation of the recommendations in Addressing Suicidal Thoughts and Behaviors in Substance Abuse Treatment, Part 1. - Discuss organizational assessment and the gathering of data relating to suicidality, and explain the organizational planning process for becoming a Level 2 agency.
- Describe program implementation, including the adaptation of existing policies and programs as well as the implementation and integration of new programmatic elements.
- Identify ways to help a program develop and improve capabilities in working with clients who are suicidal, and help an agency develop and improve its response to suicidal crises.
- Explain how to build administrative support for all levels of the GATE protocol.
