About the Course:

This study was conducted to examine the beliefs of bingo players regarding superstition and luck and how these beliefs are related to their gambling behaviour. A self-completion questionnaire was devised and the study carried out in a large bingo hall over four nights. Significant relationships were found in many areas.

This course is based on the reading-based online article, A Study of Superstitious Beliefs Among Bingo Players created by Carolyn Bingham and Mark D. Griffiths, Ph.D.

Carolyn Bingham is a psychologist and a former research student of Professor Mark Griffiths.
Mark D. Griffiths, Ph.D.
Mark Griffiths, Ph.D., is professor of gambling studies at the Nottingham Trent University. He is internationally known for his work into gambling and gaming addictions. He was the first recipient of the John Rosecrance Research Prize for "Outstanding scholarly contributions to the field of gambling research" in 1994, winner of the 1998 CELEJ Prize for best paper on gambling, and 2003 winner of the "International Excellence Award" for "outstanding contributions to the prevention of problem gambling and the practice of responsible gambling." He has published over 130 refereed research papers, two books, numerous book chapters, and over 350 other articles.
