About the Course:
Since 1991, Maryland’s Mental Hygiene Administration (MHA) has taken the lead in creating an intricate patchwork of funds in support of unique programs serving special populations, including individuals with serious mental illnesses, co-occurring substance use disorders, and trauma histories, who may be homeless or incarcerated. Efforts have resulted in the creative use of new and existing resources and in innovative programs which are described in this publication.

This course is recommended for health care professionals, especially addiction counselors, psychologists, mental health counselors, social workers, and nurses who seek knowledge about Maryland’s experience with creative funding and programs which serve people with co-occurring disorders in contact with the justice system. Discuss the provisions and requirements of the Maryland Community Criminal Justice Treatment Program (MCCJTP) and Maryland’s use of Byrne Memorial Grant Funds.
Explain Maryland’s use of the HUD Shelter Plus Care grant and the development of the Phoenix Project.
Identify the goals of the TAMAR and TAMAR’s Children projects.
