Renewal Info:
Chemical Dependency Counselors (CDCA Renewable): A total of forty (40) hours of field related continuing education is required for each two year renewal period. Of this education, six (6) hours must be chemical dependency specific and three (3) hours must be in ethics.

- Individuals who hold the LICDC credentials must also show six (6) hours of education in clinical supervision topics.
- Individuals who hold the renewable Gambling credential must show six (6) hours of gambling specific education.

Prevention Professionals: A total of forty (40) hours of field related continuing education is required for each two year renewal period. Of this education, six (6) hours must be from content area P6 (Professional Growth & Responsibility) and three (3) in ethics.

CDCA – Preliminary: Forty (40) hours of chemical dependency specific education in the following areas:
Theories of Addiction (5 hours)
Counseling Procedures & Strategies with Addicted Populations (14 hours)
Legal and Ethical Issues Pertaining to Chemical Dependency (6 hours)
Assessment & Diagnosis of Addiction (3 hours)
Treatment Planning (7 hours)
Group Process & Techniques working with Addicted Populations (5 hours)

CDCA – Assistant/Renewable: Thirty (30) hours of chemical dependency specific education (completed after obtaining CDCA Phase I status) in the following areas:
Theories of Addiction (5 hours)
Counseling Procedures & Strategies with Addicted Populations (8 hours)
Legal and Ethical Issues Pertaining to Chemical Dependency (3 hours)
Assessment & Diagnosis of Addiction (3 hours)
Treatment Planning (6 hours)
Group Process & Techniques working with Addicted Populations (5 hours)

LCDC II: An Associate’s degree in a behavioral science or nursing OR a Bachelor’s degree in any field.
One year (2,000 hours) of chemical dependency counseling related compensated work or supervised internship experience.
180 hours of chemical dependency education in nine specific content areas.
220 practical experience hours in the twelve core functions. This may be completed as part of your work experience requirements.
Successful completion of the ADC examination or completion of Examination Waiver Form.

LCDC III: Same as LCDC II but requires a Bachelor’s degree in a behavioral science or nursing.
