About the Course

This article explores the role of gaming passion in distinguishing between healthy and problematic gaming behavior. Drawing on the dualistic model of passion, which differentiates between harmonious and obsessive passion, the authors examine how these dimensions influence the development and identification of problematic gaming patterns. Using a combination of self-report measures and statistical modeling, the study found that obsessive passion is a key predictor of problematic gaming, while harmonious passion may serve as a protective factor. The research emphasizes the importance of considering motivational and emotional aspects of gaming when assessing gaming disorder and contributes to refining diagnostic criteria and interventions by integrating the concept of passion. This study supports a more nuanced understanding of gaming behavior beyond mere time spent playing.

This course is based on the reading-based online article, Gaming Passion Contributes to the Definition and Identification of Problematic Gaming created by Dr. Alexandre Infanti et al in 2023.
