This article introduces the META Protocol, a comprehensive trauma-focused treatment approach that integrates Mindfulness and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy with Buddhist psychology for addressing substance use disorders (SUDs) and trauma. The protocol builds upon the established 8-phase EMDR structure, adding mindfulness practices and ethical guidelines from Buddhist teachings to enhance client stabilization, trauma reprocessing, and relapse prevention. By focusing on the emotional, cognitive, and physiological aspects of trauma, the META Protocol provides a holistic treatment method aimed at long-term recovery from addiction and trauma-related symptoms.
This course is based on the reading-based online article, The META Protocol created by Stephen Dansiger et al in 2020.
