About the Course:
This course is based on three different NIDA Notes articles. NIDA Notes is a large collection of brief relevant articles focusing on current drug abuse treatment evidence.
Modafinil Improves Behavioral Therapy Results in Cocaine Addiction describes how NIDA-supported researchers evaluating modafinil’s potential to enhance behavioral treatment for cocaine addiction have reported a second successful clinical efficacy trial.
Disulfiram Reduces Cocaine Abuse explains how disulfiram is a well established medication for the treatment of alcoholism, and has helped people addicted to cocaine reduce abuse of the drug from 2.5 days a week to 0.5 days a week on average.
Topiramate Shows Promise in Cocaine Addiction acknowledges how in other clinical trails topiramate has helped prevent relapse to alcohol and opiate addiction. These new results with cocaine add to hopes that it may prove a versatile treatment medication for several drugs of abuse.
All three articles are contained in one PDF.
This course is based on the reading-based online article, Cocaine Research Update: Collection IX (NIDA Notes): Article 1: Modafil Improves Behavioral Therapy Results in Cocaine Addiction; Article 2: Disulfiram Reduces Cocaine Abuse; Article 3: Topiramate Shows Promise in Cocaine Addiction created by Patrick Zickler and Lori Whitten
