About the Course:

This course is based on three NIDA Notes articles. NIDA Notes is a large collection of brief relevant articles focusing on current drug abuse treatment evidence.

Serotonin System May Have Potential as a Target for Cocaine Medications explains that by targeting receptors of the neurochemical serotonin, investigators hope to advance the development of potential relapse prevention agents.

Behavioral Response to Novelty Foreshadows Neurological Response to Cocaine reveals how young rats’ engagement with novel objects correlates with cocaine-induced dopamine release, shedding light on the mechanisms of drug abuse vulnerability.

Cocaine Craving Activates Brain Reward Structures; Cocaine “High” Dampens Them
reports how a study documented changing emotional and neurobiological responses to cocaine with successive doses during a single session of drug taking.

All three articles are contained in the same PDF.

This course is based on the reading-based online, Cocaine Research Update: Collection VI (NIDA Notes): Article 1: Serotonin System May Have Potential As a Target for Cocaine Medications; Article 2: Behavioral Response to Novelty Foreshadows Neurological Response to Cocaine; Article 3: Cocaine Craving Activates Brain Reward Structures; Cocaine “High” Dampens Them created by Lori Whitten
