About the Course:

This publication presents clinical guidelines to help substance abuse treatment counselors address issues that arise from their clients’ status in the criminal justice system and to aid personnel in the criminal justice system in understanding and addressing the challenges of working with offenders with substance use disorders. This course covers Chapter 8 (adobe pages 181-209) of Treatment Improvement Protocol 44 and addresses treatment issues specific to jails.

  2. Discuss key issues related to jail-based substance abuse treatment and identify services that can reasonably be provided in a jail setting.
  3. Explain factors related to the coordination of jail treatment services and give examples of jail treatment programs.
  4. Discuss research related to jail treatment and give recommendations for treatment providers.
